Abigail McKee is a freelance flutist and music teacher in San Francisco. A recent recipient of the Master of Music degree
at Rice University, Abby is currently studying with Timothy Day at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. A native of Blacksburg,
Virginia, Abby has been recognized multiple times at the Music Teachers National Association national performance competitions.
In addition to her work at the San Francisco Conservatory and Rice University, Abby has attended the University of South Carolina,
where she received the highest academic honors granted by that university. In addition to her collegiate studies, Abby has
attended the Aspen Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Sarasota Music Festival, the Spoleto USA Festival, and
the Lake Placid Institute. She has consistently received the highest awards of her classmates as voted by the faculty of the
institutions she has attended. Her primary flute teachers have included Timothy Day, Leone Buyse, Nadine Asin, Constance Lane,
and Elizabeth Crone.
Abby has been playing the flute since the age of eleven. The daughter of two music educators, she has also studied singing,
dancing, and theater. She has taught private flute lessons for eight years, and is currently employed by the Hilldale School
as an elementary music teacher. She also freelances in and around San Francisco. She loves teaching, and takes great pleasure
in helping others find the joy of music. Her students have ranged in age from pre-teens to adults, and she finds unique thrills
and challenges in teaching each person who walks through her door.
In addition to her musical interests, Abby loves working for an organic produce stand at the San Francisco Ferry Building.
She also enjoys cooking, reading, writing, art, and playing with her cat, Pierre.
